Conquering care is a long journey with many phases. Effective treatment marks the conclusion of a critical chapter but also the beginning of an equally important one; that of rehabilitation. Cancer treatment is a hard and taxing process – the side effects are often debilitating and mentally scarring. At APCC, through-out the entire cancer process we are guided by the unifying mission to conquer cancer and provide the maximum quality of life to our patients.

Rehabilitation is key focus area at APCC. Our unique ability to help patients is greatly augmented by our team approach. Our beacon in this vital journey is the patient; we seek to deliver a new normal for them. Restoring physical function, cognitive ability and minimizing pain are the pillars of our rehabilitation program. Each plan is customized/individualized to the need of the patients.

At APCC, rehabilitation is an integral part of our Cancer Management Teams. This integrated approach ensures greater collaboration and leverages the strengths and expertise of several teams to deliver holistic and advanced care to patients.


Personalized care

A customized care plan is prepared by our team, keeping the unique needs of the patient as the focal point. This bespoke plan is influenced by key factors like the degree of memory and thinking changes, loss of flexibility and movement, swelling caused by abnormalities in your lymphatic system, the extent of muscle weakening, numbness, pain and distress, among many others.


Multi-modal Rehab

Rehab at APCC covers a wide range of specialized fields. We bring to the table an array of services to address physical, mental and even spiritual concerns. It is this 360-degree approach that makes our Tender Loving Care the most powerful mantra in cancer care.


Integrated approach to Rehabilitation at APCC

Physician leads the team and will decide what diagnostic tests should be done and what treatment should be prescribed

Physical Therapist helps patients recover strength, flexibility, endurance and mobility. They also treat pain and some can manage conditions such as inflammation etc.

Occupational Therapist Focuses on helping patients address issues of strength, coordination and range of motion and help them resume daily activities such of normal life and returning to work.

Speech and Language Pathologist addresses the problems that have to do with language comprehension or expression as well as swallowing issues.

Rehabilitation Nursing specialists handle all of the usual nursing functions but also focus on helping patients with bowel and bladder function, sexuality issues and providing education and support for the family.

Counsellors are specialists who have deep experience in helping people psychologically adjust to a life that may be different from what they had previously experienced.

Registered Dietician prepares the best diet for someone going through cancer treatment and/or rehabilitation. A dietician can offer guidance as to how to gain or lose weight and improve energy through nutrition

APCC also brings to the table specialized skills like Recreational therapy, advanced prosthetics among others to help patients on a case to case basis.

Occupational Therapy

Our intergraded team helps patients regain and build skills that are important to functioning independently. At APCC, we use a holistic approach to assess and treat patients with physical and mental impairments.


Lymphedema Therapy

Lymphedema is a swelling of the arm, leg, groin, or head and neck that can develop when surgery or radiation treatments affect the lymph nodes. Our Lymphedema therapists are specialists who help patients to manage this condition. They assist in detecting and managing lymphedema through clinical treatment and education.


Counselling and support

At APCC, we offer both individual and group counselling sessions to help patients and the family cope with different aspects of the disease. These sessions have been empirically proven to be invaluable; they are a healthy and productive way to work through the stress and anxiety that are sometimes a part of treatment and recovery.

We also have extensive cancer support groups to help patients in the challenging journey to recovery. We leverage our wide network of cancer survivors and use their stories to inspire by example.


Integrative medicine

Our Integrative Medicine Service can be a valuable part of your formal treatment plan. This vibrant offering includes acupuncture, meditation, visualization, music therapy, nutritional counselling among others.


Nutrition

A highly trained food and nutrition team is there to help patients understand and cope with a variety of conditions relating to cancer treatment. Our expert dietitians provide patients expert guidance that helps them manage digestion problems, changes in taste, weight, and other issues. They’ll work in tandem with the treatment team to customize a dietary plan that fits the specific needs of the patient.


Cancer Support Groups

Support groups are run by doctors, social workers, and nurses with expertise and training that can help you and your family cope with adjusting to cancer emotionally and physically. Participants are encouraged to share experiences or simply gather information. Our disease-specific support groups touch on dealing with issues such as fatigue, isolation, and concerns about the future. Patients are encouraged to participate in social activities which will be conducted regularly at the APCC centre.

Palliative care focuses on preventing, managing, and relieving the symptoms of cancer and the side effects of cancer treatment. It also provides comprehensive support to people living with cancer, their family, friends, and caregivers.

At APCC, Palliative care is truly emblematic of our team approach; the palliative care team involves physicians and nurses, social workers, and sometimes others such as nutritionists or a physical therapist - all focused on helping patients prevent and reduce suffering associated with their illness.
